EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox clinched their second consecutive series victory as they defeated the visiting Boise Hawks 7-4 before 3,686 fans Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The Frogs (6-3) won their fourth straight to take the first three games of the five-game set against Boise (2-7). Today’s game begins at 4:05 p.m.
Everett leadoff hitter Bryson Brigman finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, cleanup hitter Kristian Brito finished with two hits and three RBI, and Nick Zamarelli hit his first professional home run and drove in two while adding a single for the Northwest League North Division-leading AquaSox.
The Sox also got a strong effort from their pitching staff as they combined to set down 13 consecutive Boise hitters at one point. Ljay Newsome earned his second victory of the season as he struck out five and allowed two runs — one earned — and scattered three hits in five innings.
The Hawks led 2-1 following Luis Castro’s solo home run in the third, but Everett took the lead for good in the bottom of third thanks to a two-run single from Brito followed by Zamarelli’s two-run home run.
Everett added two more in the sixth when Brigman drove in Yojhan Quevedo with a single and Nick Thurman scored on an error to make it 7-2. Thurman finished the game with three hits and scored two twice.
Castro added his second solo home run in the top of the ninth against Everett reliever Thomas Burrows and Tyler Orris drove in another run for the game’s final run.
Boise took the initial lead when Castro drove in Eric Toole with an RBI groundout in the top of the first.
Everett countered in the bottom of the inning when Brigman was hit by a pitch, stole second and came home on Kristian Brito’s two-out RBI single up the middle.
