Reflections: Silvertips allow three special teams goals in defeat

The Game
The Silvertips scored their quickest goal of the year, coming on the first shift, in fact. So it was going to be easy, right?
Of course not. It’s never easy, especially when you allow two power play goals and come up empty on all six of your chances. That was the story Friday as the Tri-City Americans dealt the Tips their first defeat in regulation this season.
Everett created plenty of chances as it outshot Tri-City 30-27. But only the first one found the net as Nicholas Sanders turned in an impressive 29-save effort in net. The Tips play the Americans seven more times this season, but not until Oct. 27. That will be a welcome respite after three straight games against the same opponent.
Although perhaps it’s not a respite. The Tips are headed north to face unbeaten Prince George, then to Spokane before returning home for Pink the Rink Night next Saturday against Seattle.

The Turning Point
Maxwell James took advantage of a turnover at the Everett blueline and scored a short-handed goal 4:27 into the final period. That pushed Tri-City’s lead to 3-1.
Three Stars
1. Tri-City F Michael Rasmussen: The 6-foot-5 Surrey native scored two goals.
2. Tri-City F Morgan Geekie: Geekie had three assists.
3. Tri-City G Nicholas Sanders: Sanders had 29 saves on 30 Everett shots.
