MARYSVILLE — Police say parents should unwrap and cut into Halloween candy before allowing children to eat it.
Two families in Marysville have reported finding candy with a nail or screw inside. There is no easy way to tell how or when the candy might have been tampered with, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said Tuesday.
“At this point, we have no information that suggests these are not valid cases,” he said.
The two families went trick-or-treating in two different neighborhoods, he said. No injuries were reported in either case.
The first family called 911 about 10:30 p.m. Monday. They took pictures of what appeared to be a finishing nail inside a mini Snickers, Lamoureux said. The pictures were posted to social media, but the item was thrown away before police got a look.
The second family made a report Tuesday afternoon of finding what appeared to be a wood screw in a peanut butter cup, Lamoureux said.
Anyone who experiences something similar should call 911.
