Cellphones allowed at interactive holiday concert in Edmonds

It will be a busy time this weekend at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
The Sno-King Community Chorale presents its Holiday Magic Concert at 3 and again at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Cascade Symphony Orchestra offers a delightful Holiday Pops Concert on Sunday and Monday evenings.
The chorale and its director Frank DeMiero plan to have some fun at the concert, which has a subtitle of “It’s conTEXTual.”
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring their cellphones for an interactive texting experience, DeMiero said. This should be a great time, considering that at most classical concerts, the musicians don’t want audience members to even think about their phones.
Also planned are many sing-along carols and a lot of Christmas joy, he said.
The orchestra, under the direction of Michael Miropolsky, also plans a sing-along, with Miropolsky conducting while playing his violin.
The Cascade program features the music of Strauss, including the overture to “Die Fledermaus” and “Kaiser” waltzes. Also festive will be Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “Chicken Reel.”
Selections from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” will be followed by a Chanukah klezmer medley arranged by Edward Marcus and clarinetist Robin Seletsky.
The finale will be Victor Herbert’s “Auditorium Festival March,” which was written in 1901 for an anniversary celebration of a theater in Chicago.
The piece also is a fitting end to the 10th anniversary year at Edmonds Center for the Arts, home of the orchestra, the chorale and others.
