Some off-day musings including Putin’s return and midget title for Leduc Oil Kings

First things first: The Lethbridge Hurricanes resurrected Vladimir Putin in gif form Sunday night as Russian forward Egor Babenko recorded a hat trick. Let’s all take a moment and recognize this is the second time (that I’ve seen) that Lethbridge has tweeted a gif of the Russian leader:
Comrade Putin back to congratulate Comrade Babenko. Puck's in your zone @Rebelshockey & @WHLHitmen: You getting in on the despot gif game? https://t.co/FMN7zRRHjz

Moving on: The Everett Silvertips left for Victoria Monday morning following a quick ice session and will play the Royals in Game 3 on Tuesday and Game 4 on Wednesday on Vancouver Island. Since the series is knotted 1-1 the teams are guaranteed to return to Everett Friday for Game 5.
If you’d like an extended look at newest signee Mark Liwiski you can read my blog from Friday and take a look at this video posted by the Tips:

– In somewhat unrelated news the Leduc Oil Kings won the Alberta Midget Hockey League playoffs to qualify for the TELUS Cup for the first time in team history:
GOILKINGS!! Congrats boys @LeducMAAAOil #RoadtotheTelusCup

Current Silvertip Matt Fonteyne played for the Oil Kings as did fellow Wetaskiwin, Alberta, native and former Silvertips Cole MacDonald. I’m sure there have been other former Oil Kings to play for Everett (feel free to let me know).
It represents something of a Cinderella run for the Oil Kings who finished third in the Dodge Division of the AMHL and had a record of 14-15-5 during the regular season.
– Elsewhere, the team over at Dub Network put out their “All-20 All-Star Team” and Tips defenseman Aaron Irving earns a nod. Former Tips captain and current Regina Pat Dawson Leedahl was honorable mention.
Missed seeing this last week, but #Tips D Aaron Irving earns spot on @dub_network's "All-20" All-Star team: https://t.co/H7w8nEXNlk pic.twitter.com/00jlzLJPuJ
