Former Everett Silvertips and Spokane Chiefs standout winger Dominic Zwerger has signed a three-year deal with HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss National League A, the top professional league in Switzerland.
Zwerger, a native of Dornbirn, Austria, spent his overage season in 2016-17 with the Tips after coming over in an early-season trade with the Spokane Chiefs. Zwerger played in 67 games for Everett last season with career highs in goals (28), assists (47) and points (75) as Everett claimed its fifth U.S. Division title in franchise history.
Caught in an overage numbers game in Spokane, the Chiefs dealt him to Everett after the opening weekend of the season for a third-round bantam pick.
“The trade from Spokane was definitely a sad day, but when I heard I got traded to Everett, I knew they were a good hockey club,” Zwerger said. “I was super excited to be going there. The coaching staff was great and they had unbelievable hockey players and (good) goalies. I was super excited.”
The six-foot, 200-pounder led Everett with 15 points in the 2017 WHL playoffs as the Tips reached the second round for the third consecutive year before falling in four games to eventual WHL champion Seattle. It was the first and only time Zwerger reached the second round of the playoffs. He recorded 60 goals and 59 assists in three seasons with Spokane.

“I always believed in this group and the day I came here I knew they were always a top team in the U.S. Division,” Zwerger said after the Tips were eliminated by the T-Birds in the playoffs. “We just stuck with the process and kept playing and went game-to-game and it was definitely the best thing I’ve done in my career so far, winning a U.S. Division banner and then beating out Victoria in the first round.”
HC Ambri-Piotta plays in 6,500-seat Valascia in Ambri, Switzerland. Founded in 1937, it is one of 12 clubs comprising the top Swiss professional league. All teams play 50 games with the top eight teams qualifying for the playoffs.
