Choirs, bands, orchestras: Take you pick of finale concerts

It’s that time of year. Choirs, bands and orchestras are putting the finishing touches on season finale concerts.
The Everett Chorale and the Sno-King Community Chorale plan to dip into the great American musical theater songbook for their programs.
Everett Chorale’s concert — Songs &Stories from Broadway — will be performed at 3 p.m. June 4 at Everett Performing Arts Center under the direction of longtime leader Lee Mathews.
Selections from “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Showboat,” “West Side Story” and “Oliver!” are on the program. For tickets, call 425-257-8600.
Sno-King’s annual Ticket to Broadway concert, under the direction of Frank DeMiero, features the music of “Fiddler on the Roof” at 3 p.m. and then again at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. For tickets, call 425-275-9595.
Songs include “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” the Sabbath Prayer, and “L’Chaim” (To Life). The cast includes Steve Cobb as Tevye, Darla Kiste as Golde, Collene Lynch as Yente the matchmaker, Mike Bell as Lazar Wolf, Julie Johnsen as Tzeitel, Marla Lockhart as Chava, Nikki Glaros as Hodel, Frank Bonner as Motel, Anthony Molinero as Perchik and Joel Nichols as Fyedka. Members of the Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble and violinist Luis Alcantara also will perform.
Marysville City Bands will perform at 7 p.m. June 3 at the new Marysville Historical Society Museum, 6805 Armar Road, near Jennings Park in Marysville. The concert is free, but donations collected will be split between the historical society and the band.
Pacifica Chamber Orchestra violinist/director Fred Chu and his ensemble offer their annual (almost) Summer Concert at 3 p.m. June 4 at First Presbyterian Church in Everett. Tickets will be available at the door.
“I can’t believe a fantastic season of great music is almost over,” Chu said in an email. “For the season finale, we have prepared music by two great masters of 20th century — Sibelius and Stravinsky — and one unknown great master of the 19th century — George Onslow.
“Onslow once was highly regarded and praised by famous composers, such as Schumann and Mendelssohn, though he has been virtually unknown since World War I. We are delighted to bring him back to the spotlight.”
The program includes Romance in C by Sibelius, the Woodwind Quintet Op. 81 by Onslow and “Apollo,” the beautiful ballet piece for string orchestra by Stravinsky.
Though not a season-end concert, the benefit concert for the Patrick Castro Excellence in Vocal Music Scholarship for the Snohomish School District is an annual event.
The concert — Love Songs, Folk Songs and Songs That Make You Smile — is set for 3 p.m. June 4 at Snohomish United Methodist Church.
Admission is by donation to the scholarship fund, which will be awarded to a senior student at Snohomish or Glacier Peak high schools.
The primary performers are the talented Common Ground vocal quintet — Joel Cummings, Jon Cummings, Jeff Thoreson, Tom Lafferty and Pat Castro — who will be heard again at the Evergreen State Fair in September.
In addition, the Once-In-A-While Chamber Singers are part of the concert. Also under the direction of retired Snohomish High choir director Pat Castro, this group includes teachers, engineers, students, lawyers and artists who perform exclusively to raise funds for this scholarship.
The program will feature former scholarship winners Alexandra Dreher, a senior at Pacific Lutheran University, and Clara Todd, a freshman at Shoreline Community College.
