AquaSox outlast Dust Devils in 11-5 victory

PASCO — The Everett AquaSox outlasted the Tri-City Dust Devils 11-5 in a back-and-forth battle Wednesday night at Gesa Stadium.

It was the second straight victory for the AquaSox (11-16), who opened an eight-game road trip that includes three games at Tri-City (14-13) followed by five at Eugene.

Evan White had three hits, while Eugene Helder, Johnny Adams and Brayan Hernandez each had two as the AquaSox pounded out 14 hits against six Dust Devils pitchers.

Michael Suarez earned the win for Everett as he scattered five hits and fanned eight in five innings of relief of starter Randy Bell.

Former Shorecrest High School star Ted Hammond pitched the ninth inning for Everett, which did not walk any Tri-City batters in the game.

The Dust Devils took their final lead when they snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the fifth when Luis Asuncion singled in Kelvin Melean on a ball deflected in the infield with two outs.

But the Frogs answered with four runs of their own in the top of the sixth.

David Banuelos had an RBI single, and Hernandez had a two-run RBI triple and later scored on an error.

Tri-City pitchers walked in two more runs in the seventh and Evan White scored on a double-play groundout in the eighth.

Tri-City initially erased a two-run deficit with four runs in the bottom of the first.

Melean, Luis Almanzar and Tre Carter all had RBI singles, and another run came home on a two-out error as just two of the four runs the Dust Devils scored were earned as they took a 4-2 lead.

Everett drew even in the top of the fifth.

The AquaSox loaded the bases with two outs and Helder drove in two runs with a single to center field to make it 4-4.

The AquaSox took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Hernandez led off with a double and stole home on the back end of a double steal.

White drove in Chris Torres with a two-out RBI single for Everett’s second run.

The series continues tonight at 7:15 p.m.
