ARLINGTON — A man apparently drowned Friday evening after jumping off a bridge on the Centennial Trail into the Stillaguamish River.

The man was spotted jumping into the river, but did not surface. The incident was reported to 911 just before 8 p.m., according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

About 15 people jumped into the river to try to locate him. The sheriffs office dive team was called out. But a search did not take place because the man’s body was found and pulled from the river.

He was pronounced dead at Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington.

The victim’s age was not immediately available. The man’s name was expected to be released by the medical examiner, which is conducting an investigation.
