Man rescued after jumping into Skykomish River

SULTAN — A man was rescued Tuesday from the Skykomish River near Sportsman Park.

He was taken to a local hospital around 4 p.m. His age was unknown.

Witnesses told 911 the man was acting strangely before he jumped in the river. They said he “became increasingly distressed, eventually calling for help,” according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Currents hindered the rescue effort. The man was underwater for almost half an hour, the sheriff’s office said. His age and the extent of his injuries were not immediately clear.
