EVERETT — Two boys were arrested on suspicion of having guns when police served search warrants on them Thursday in Everett during a crackdown on gang violence.
City, county and federal law enforcement officers served warrants on “confirmed gang members in various locations throughout the City of Everett” starting around 10 a.m., according to a press release.
Out of the four people contacted, two boys were arrested for investigation of illegally possessing semi-automatic handguns. The two others were released.
Multiple agencies assisted the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office during the operation, including Everett police, the Snohomish County Drug and Gang Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
No other details were released Thursday.
There have been at least 65 gang-related shootings in Snohomish County since 2015. Two teens were shot earlier this week in Everett, including a 19-year-old man who was shot Tuesday across from Providence Regional Medical Center’s Colby campus. The hospital was locked down while officers investigated.
Police later said the shooting appeared to be accidental. The victim and two other teens were visiting a 17-year-old boy who had been injured Monday night in a shooting on W. Casino Road.
Police have not said if Monday’s gunfire was gang-related.
