Bird Fest comes to Edmonds
The Puget Sound Bird Fest, a celebration of birds and nature, runs Friday to Sunday at several locations in Edmonds. Find guided walks, raptor presentations, speakers and exhibits, boat cruises, bird art and photography, children’s activities and a Citizen Science room.
The keynote speaker is Stephen Shunk, on “How Woodpeckers Can Save the World (or at least your local forest),” at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St.

Open house at the opera house
The Marysville Opera House is hosting an open house where people can tour the space, book an event date and peruse vendor booths highlighting food, decoration, event planning and other services. The open house is set for Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The Marysville Opera House is at 1225 Third Street.

Shredding event
Snohomish County PUD hosts a free shredding event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at 2320 California St. Securely dispose of sensitive documents, and find special deals on energy efficient lighting and PUD conservation programs.

Fresh Bucks program launches
Snohomish County, working with Food From Farms and the Washington State Farmers Market Association, has launched a Fresh Bucks pilot program. Low-income individuals and families who receive electronic benefit transfer (EBT) benefits can match their dollars at participating farmers markets, from $2 up to $10, to buy fresh produce and herbs, mushrooms and produce-bearing plant starts.
Participating markets include the Everett Friday Farmers Market, Everett Sunday Farmers Market, Marysville Farmers Market, Mukilteo Farmers Market and Port Susan Farmers Market. This year’s program will last through the season or until contributions are exhausted.
Donations are welcome and are tax-deductible.

Help make music
The Snohomish County Music Project welcomes volunteers. There are opportunities for audio-visual engineers, carpenters, event coordinators, painters and more. The Music Project is a nonprofit that focuses on making communities stronger through music. Programs include music lessons for children, and group music therapy for veterans and seniors.

Kiwanis Oktoberfest nears
The Lynnwood Kiwanis Club plans an Oktoberfest fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood. The event includes a German-themed dinner, silent auction, bingo and raffle. Tickets are $50. Proceeds benefit charitable causes.
The public is invited to attend, donate auction items, sponsor the fundraiser or volunteer.
