Diversity event

Edmonds’ Diversity Commission is hosting the second annual “World Café” event for people to discuss topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion. The event is scheduled 10 a.m. until noon Oct. 14 in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St. Email diversity coordinator Misha Carter at misha.carter@edmondswa.gov by Oct. 10 to reserve your space.

Origami that’s cool

Fold claws you can wear and make a chomping monster at this month’s “Origami Cool Zone,” 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Materials provided.

Teens can craft with circuits

Teen STEM Tuesday at the Arlington Library will cover the basics of electric circuits as participants make fun and funky light-up bookmarks. The event is at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The library is at 135 N Washington Ave.

WAYS TO HELP

Volunteer training coming up

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County holds its next community education and volunteer training class, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 9 to Nov. 6, along with 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 28, a Saturday. The classes are provided free to volunteers willing to commit 10 hours of volunteer time in a six-month period for the nonprofit.

Fun run for Sky Valley Y

The Sky Valley YMCA’s Sky Valley Classic Family Fun Run and Walk starts at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 from the 100 block of Main Street in downtown Monroe. The event includes 10k, 5k and one-mile routes. Proceeds support Y youth programs.

Registration is $35. Kids ages 6-15 pay their age. The one-mile race is $15, all ages.

Scarecrow time in Edmonds

The Edmonds Historical Museum’s annual Scarecrow Festival kicked off Sunday. Businesses, individuals, homeowner groups, clubs, artists and others are invited to create scarecrows and submit their entries to this fun community contest. The deadline for entries is 6 p.m. Oct. 15. Awards this year include honors for first-time builders and “Best Depiction of Edmonds History.”
