Lip dub down Olympic Avenue
Arlington High School leaders are holding a “Home Dub” lip dub on Thursday in lieu of a homecoming parade. The popular style of music video, which combines lip synching and audio dubbing, will be filmed down Olympic Avenue.
All alumni, students and families are invited to help by lining the sidewalks of Olympic Avenue between First and Third streets. Come at 5:45 p.m. for the 6 p.m. filming, ready to dance and celebrate. Wear AHS colors. Free refreshments will be served afterward at Legion Park.

Book signing in Granite Falls
Author Joan Husby, who grew up in the Verlot area east of Granite Falls, plans a book signing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during Railroad Days. The location is the Granite Falls Historical Museum. Husby’s newest title is “Heart’s Gold,” a historical novel focused on Monte Cristo, the former mining town that is now a hiking destination on the Mountain Loop Highway.
The Railroad Days parade starts at noon Saturday.

Hear some Erie Canal history
Kent Morgan will share the history of the Erie Canal, which broke ground 200 years ago, at the monthly meeting of the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society on Wednesday at the LDS Family History Center, 22015 48th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace. There is a brief meeting at 6:30 p.m., followed by the speaker at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome.

Poetry reading Thursday
Marysville Getchell High School teacher Melanie Kreiger will share her poetry for First Thursday Poetry — and International Teachers Day — at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hibulb Cultural Center, 6410 23rd Ave. NE, Tulalip. Museum admission is free that day.

Music for a cause
A punk rock benefit concert is planned for 9 p.m. Friday at The Anchor Pub. It is raising money for Renee Swetz, who taught in the Snohomish and Monroe school districts. Swetz has been diagnosed with multicentric reticulohistiocytosis, a rare skin disease. Musical acts include Tim and Jude Noah.

USS Sampson to deploy
The USS Sampson, a guided-missile destroyer, is scheduled to leave Naval Station Everett today. The destroyer is assigned to a carrier strike group that has been preparing for deployment for the past year. A departure time was not provided.
