Raise funds for education in Arlington
The Arlington Education Foundation is hosting Wines, Brews and Cruizin’ on Oct. 20 at Dwayne Lanes, 20410 Smokey Point Blvd. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes sampling of beer, wine and appetizers, along with prizes, purchases and live music. It is for guests 21 or older. Tickets are $30 each or $50 for two. They are available at Flowers by George, the Arlington Pharmacy or online, at a discount, at arlingtonedfoundation.org. The event raises money for classroom grants in the Arlington School District.
Pancake feed at Gold Bar fire station …
Firefighters will serve pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, coffee and orange juice from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Gold Bar Fire Station 53, 501 Lewis Ave. A suggested donation of $5 supports projects such as the Ho Ho Run, where firefighters deliver Christmas presents to local kids.
And in Mukilteo, too
Mukilteo firefighters hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fire Station 25, 10400 47th Place W. Firefighters will flip pancakes, grill ham and serve eggs. Fire vehicles will be available for photos and tours. Donations will be accepted for the Mukilteo Firefighters Benevolent Fund. Food donations are welcome for the Mukilteo Food Bank.
Tutors needed at EvCC
Everett Community College’s Volunteer Literacy Program seeks volunteers who can tutor adults who are learning English or are preparing for Spanish-language GED tests.
Volunteers are needed from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring would be held in south Everett, near Cascade High School. An informal interview and a training workshop are required.

Marysville bazaar helps scholarships
The Afton Chapter Order of Eastern Star bazaar is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Marysville Masonic Hall, 419 Columbia Ave. Rental proceeds benefit a scholarship program.

Waterfront property workshop for owners
Everyone who lives on waterfront property in Snohomish County or Island County is invited to learn about managing erosion, slope stability and habitat at a free workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Goodwin Community Club. The address is 17323 42nd Ave. NW, Stanwood. Coastal geologist Jim Johannessen is a featured speaker.

Demolition begins at Lake Stevens City Hall
Expect noise Monday at the old Lake Stevens City Hall at North Cove Park. The building is scheduled for demolition. Eventually the property will become park space. A temporary City Hall is in operation across the parking lot.
