A bug meet and eat at the Burke Museum’s Amazing Animal event

1. Bug off
Eat bugs, meet bugs. Touch a tarantula and learn about creatures furry and scaly from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Burke Museum in Seattle.
Amazing Animals combines two popular events, Bug Blast and Meet the Mammal, into one day. See hundreds of specimens from the Burke’s entomology and mammal collections, solve mysteries in a scavenger hunt and make animal-inspired crafts.
Nosh on black ants and other insects from the Bug Chef at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Two ponies from Seattle Pony Party will be there from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In honor of Veterans Day, admission is free to veterans and service members with ID.

2. Listen up
Tickets are on sale now for Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation’s 15th annual Sustainable Gardening Winter Speaker Series. Eight celebrity gardeners, authors and experts will share their knowledge on a garden variety of topics, from bulbs and trees to slugs and birds.
Talks are typically held every two weeks from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays in January through early April. Come early or stay late to “talk shop” with other gardeners. The new location this year is Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Cost for all eight lectures is $85.
