TREE LIGHTING EVENTS

Several communities plan tree-lighting events to kick off the holiday season.

Arlington: The annual Santa Parade leads things off at noon Dec. 2, followed immediately by a tree lighting at Legion Park, 114 N Olympic Ave. Caroling, festive sweater contest, Santa, hot chocolate, kids crafts, music and more. More info: www.arlingtonwa.gov/HH.

Bothell: Celebrated as the world’s largest living Christmas tree in 1962 by Life magazine, the tree will be lighted during a program that runs 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 on Main Street. Activities, refreshments, Santa and more. More info: www.bothelltreelightingfestival.com.

Brier: The city celebration starts with Santa’s arrival at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at Brier Park, 2903 228th St. SW. Brier Elementary School carolers perform. Treats, too. Bring food for Concern For Neighbors Food Bank. More info: 425-775-5440.

Darrington: A tree lighting ceremony is at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at North Counties Family Services, 1015 Seeman St. It follows Santa’s Can-to-Cane Exchange food drive, at 6, which features Santa riding through town with firefighters to collect food bank donations. More info: 360-436-1131.

Edmonds: Festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza, at Fifth Avenue N and Bell Street. Bring clothing donations for Clothes For Kids and food for Nourishing Network. Live music, treats, and Santa on a fire engine. More info: www.edmondstreelighting.com.

Everett: The Port of Everett’s Holiday on the Bay runs noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 2, with the tree lighting at 5 p.m., at the Waterfront Center, 1205 Craftsman Way. Lake Stevens: Winterfest runs 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2 at Lake Stevens City Hall, 1808 Main St., and also includes Santa, caroling and treats. More info: 425-334-1012.

Lynnwood: The City of Lynnwood Christmas Tree Lighting is at 5 p.m. Dec. 2 at Silver Creek Family Church, 5326 176th St. SW. Live music, ballistic swing ride, food trucks, games, free hot chocolate and coffee, Santa and more. More info: www.lynnwoodchristmas.com.

Mill Creek: The tree lighting, 4-5 p.m. Dec. 2, at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St., follows a Santa Parade, which starts at 3:30 p.m., down Main Street in Mill Creek Town Center. Live music, Santa, cookie decorating, wagon rides and more. More info: www.cityofmillcreek.com.

Monroe: Light Up Monroe is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Traveler’s Park, at Main Street and U.S. 2. New this year is a holiday light parade, preceding the tree lighting. More info: choosemonroe.com.

Mountlake Terrace: The Tree Lighting Ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W. Treats, carols, and lighting a tree-shaped frame atop the water tower. Donations accepted for the Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund. More info: 425-776-9173.
