Snohomish Christmas Parlor Tour: Noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 10. See historic homes decorated for the holidays. Cost is $15 general admission, $12 for seniors and youth. Each ticket includes a tour map with directions to each showcased home. Buy tickets at McDaniel’s Do It Center, Joyworks and Annie’s On First in advance or at the Waltz Building the day of the tour. Holiday party: Monroe Garden Club’s annual holiday potluck and gift exchange will be at noon on Dec. 11 at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis St. Bring a dish to share and a wrapped garden-related gift valued at $10. Gift exchange is optional. Donations to the Sky Valley Food Bank also are welcome. Bellevue Botanical Garden: The garden’s 23rd annual winter wonderland called Garden d’Lights is displayed 4:30 to 9 p.m. daily through Dec. 31, 12001 Main St., Bellevue. Admission is $5, free for ages 10 and younger.
Christmas Bird Count: Volunteers are needed to count birds in two 15-mile-diameter circles located mostly in Snohomish County, one roughly north (Dec. 30), the other south (Dec. 16). Join a team of 10 counters in the field or sit in the warmth of your home and count birds at feeders. Call or email the area leaders to find out if your address is in one of the circles, or if you want to join others in the field. No birding experience necessary. Winter speakers: Tickets are on sale now for the Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation’s Sustainable Gardening Winter Speaker Series with eight celebrity gardeners, authors and experts sharing their knowledge on a variety of gardening subjects. Lectures are generally held every two weeks from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays from January through early April. The new location this year is Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Become a master: Master gardener training classes start in January. Research, educate, mentor and answer horticulture questions for gardeners in a collaborative environment. All training is open book and no memorization is expected. Training involves about 80 hours of classroom and workshop instruction held once a week on Thursdays, Jan. 11 through March 29. Tuition is $275, plus a volunteer commitment of 40 hours each year for two years on a variety of horticultural and environmental educational projects.
