Historic Everett bus tour
“Then and Now” waterfront bus tours with the Port of Everett and Historic Everett are filling up fast. The remaining bus tour time is 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 9. A 5:30 p.m. tour has a wait list. The waterfront tour celebrates the Port’s centennial and offers commentary by local historians and Port staff about the Port’s first 100 years. Registration and valid government-issued photo ID are required.

Books for Bikes
The Arlington Masons have donated two bikes to the Arlington Library for a Books for Bikes Challenge. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are challenged to read three books by May 25 to receive a prize, an invitation to a party June 2 and an entry in the drawing for a new bike. To participate, pick up a Books for Bikes bookmark at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave.

Meet a lawmaker
State Sen. Maralyn Chase, D-Edmonds, plans two town hall meetings in Snohomish County: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 10 at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W. The first meeting includes a discussion of taxes; the second, a discussion of the environment. Other topics are discussed at town halls scheduled in Shoreline.

Help kids help food bank
Students at Fryelands Elementary School in Monroe are collecting money through May 9 for the Sky Valley Food Bank. The goal is for each student to collect $4, the cost of one weekend’s worth of food sent home with a student who qualifies for free or discounted school meals. The Fryelands Falcons and the food bank invite the community to meet the same challenge as part of an annual GiveBIG campaign. Donations can be made online at givebigseattle.org or svfoodbank.org.

Council to review pool plan
The Everett City Council on Wednesday is scheduled to review a proposed contract regarding the new YMCA on Colby Avenue. The agreement provides public access hours to the private pool, and makes arrangements to create a city park nearby. The council may vote on the item next week. The new Y is expected to open in late 2019 at the former site of Everett School District offices.
