The Marysville School District held a Festival of World Cultures celebration on May 18 at Totem Middle School. The festive event was organized by the district’s English Language Learners Program and the Equity, Diversity and Indian Education Department.

Guests sampled food from different cultures, watched dance and music performances, and learned words in Lushootseed, Spanish, Russian and Tagalog, just a few of the 37 languages spoken by school families.

“Events like this help us celebrate the many contributions that make our community strong and united, and help us all understand the importance of respecting and honoring our diverse cultural backgrounds,” said Deborah Parker, the school district Director of Equity, Diversity and Indian Education.
