EVERETT — A man in his 90s was taken into custody Sunday morning in connection with the homicide of a man in his 40s who was reportedly the older man’s grandson, Everett police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of Madison Avenue, a few blocks off Evergreen Way, just before 10:15 a.m. Officers secured the area and tried to contact the occupants of a house, and when they failed, they “breached” a window, police said.

Inside, they found the dead man, who had been shot. The older man was taken into custody and transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett “for an assessment,” Everett police said in a news release.

“It was reported, but not confirmed, that the males are related as grandfather and grandson,” police said.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death and the identity of the victim.

Madison Avenue was closed to traffic for almost two hours but is now open.
