EVERETT — Access to the northbound on-ramp to Highway 529 from northbound East Marine View Drive will remain closed as cleanup work by the Department of Ecology continues in Everett.

The work is being done to remove heavy metals left there by the Everett smelter, according to the state.

In a few weeks, Ecology will begin excavation on the other side of the intersection. During this phase, traffic flow will change slightly, but drivers will still be unable to access northbound Highway 529 from northbound E. Marine View Drive.

The cleanup is being done in two phases and could last until early winter. Ecology switched the order of the work and started with phase two of the project.
