Poetry reading at Hibulb

Oceana Alday is to give a poetry reading at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hibulb Cultural Center, 6410 23rd Ave. NE, Tulalip. Museum admission is free that day. Open mic follows.

Expert shares Sound advice

How healthy is the water in Puget Sound? What can residents of the North Puget Sound do to protect it? Kathryn Davis, stewardship manager for Puget Soundkeeper, will explain at a free public presentation, 7 p.m. Thursday in Spruce Hall in Forest Park, 802 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.

Davis oversees monitoring, cleanup and restoration projects and educates residents on the role they can play in Puget Sound recovery. Her Everett talk is hosted by the North Sound Sea Kayaking Association, and will be of interest to non-paddlers as well.

Community Connections at library

Connect with local community service locations from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St. There will be resources for everyone from early childhood to seniors, including health, employment, recreation, food and nutrition, English language learning, emergency aid and more. Refreshments and door prizes, too.

Bridge the gap for police

The Mill Creek Police Foundation holds a family-friendly Bridging the Gap fundraiser, 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 at Arena Sports, 13500 Bothell-Everett Highway. Meet police officers, enjoy arcade games and other activities, bid on auction items, enjoy food and much more. Tickets are $24.95 plus tax.

Chili cook-off benefits park

The Camano Island Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Chili & Chowder Cook-Off, 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Two dozen local businesses and individuals will compete for prizes and taste buds. There will be a live art auction and raffle. Proceeds from the auction benefit the Freedom Park Association.

Admission is $10 for 10 tastings.
