Prep Notebook: Tis the season for holiday hoop tournaments

School is out for the holidays, but there’s still plenty of prep basketball.

Below is a list of local basketball teams that are participating in holiday tournaments this week, including several teams that are headed out of state.

WIAA honors Battle

Marysville Pilchuck boys basketball standout RaeQuan Battle was named an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for the week of Dec. 10-15.

Battle, a senior, made a game-winning layup at the buzzer and finished with 43 points, 19 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a 55-53 win over Edmonds-Woodway on Dec. 14.

The University of Washington signee also had 31 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a Dec. 12 victory over Lynnwood

Battle has averaged 25.5 points per contest in six games for the Tomahawks this season.
