Poetry slam
A Teen Poetry Slam will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St. Teens in ninth to 12th grade are welcome, no matter what school they attend. Snacks will be served. No advanced sign-ups are required.
The event will offer writing prompts and challenges designed to tap the imagination. Supplies will be provided, including those for blackout or book spine poetry. Bring your own poems to read. The focus will be a free expression of teens’ ideas, emotions and thoughts.

Bike bonanza
Join a day of bike-related fun from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at Lynnwood Elementary School. Free helmet-fitting and giveaways, as well as a bike rodeo. Free for kids ages 1 through 18.

Light rail open houses
Sound Transit is holding two open houses for the Lynnwood Link Extension. The agency plans to share information about what to expect during construction.
Times and dates are 6 to 8 p.m. April 18 at the Nile Shrine Golf Center, 6601 244th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace, and 6 to 8 p.m. April 25 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. A short presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. An online open house is also be available at lynnwoodlink.participate.online.
Forest health seminar
Washington State University Extension has planned a talk from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 7 to discuss factors behind a spate of dead and dying trees across the region. Learn what makes forests healthy and how to recognize problems on your property. The event is free. It’s set to take place in the Brightwater Environmental Education and Community Center, 22505 Highway 9, Woodinville.
The seminar will be taught by Kevin Zobrist, associate professor of forestry at WSU and author of the book “Native Trees of Western Washington.”

OPPORTUNITY
Mukilteo scholarship
The Mukilteo Schools Foundation is offering scholarships to graduating seniors from Mukilteo schools who will be enrolled in post-secondary education next year. The application forms are available at each high school and on the foundation’s website at www.mukilteoschoolsfoundation.org.
To complete the application, students should be prepared to write briefly about their commitment to goals and tasks and to community service, their experience with diversity, any leadership and group collaboration, and their adaptability to change. Applications are due April 26.
