EVERETT­ — The Daily Herald took a page from famed photographer Jordan Matter’s book, because Cirque du Soleil is in town.

Matter prefers to shoot dancers, gymnasts and acrobats in everyday settings like grocery stores, subway stations, amusement parks and airports. To see what we mean, check out videos of his photoshoots on YouTube.

Silja Dos Reis and Jerome Sordillon play the lead characters in Cirque du Soleil’s “Crystal,” showing through April 14 at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. It is the contemporary circus’ first ice skating-based show.

On Tuesday, Dos Reis (an ice skater, but on Everett’s streets in roller blades) and Sordillon (aerial straps acrobat) had a photoshoot at downtown Everett landmarks with Herald photographer Andy Bronson.

They danced under the “moon” at Wetmore Theater Plaza. They climbed the giant books at the Everett Library, stretched among the equally big No. 2 pencils on the corner of Hoyt Avenue and California Street, and played with the paper airplane thrower at the Aero Apartments.

In the show, Dos Reis, who plays title character Crystal, and Sordillon, who plays Crystal’s love interest, perform a routine that involves aerial straps and skating pas de deux. As their characters fall in love, the boundaries between ice and sky appear to blur.

Cirque du Soleil’s “Crystal” is showing through April 14 at the Angel of the Winds Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 12:30, 4 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 1:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $45-$115.
