MILL CREEK — A woman was injured Thursday in an apartment fire near Martha Lake, firefighters said.
A neighbor called 911 at 7:06 p.m. to report the fire in a unit of the Millwood Estates in the 16600 block of Sixth Avenue W, South County Fire said in a news release. The complex is just south of 164th Street SW, between I-5 and Mill Creek.
Smoke was coming from a second-floor apartment in a three-story building when crews from South County Fire arrived. The injured woman had exited the apartment and had closed the door, which helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments, the agency said. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with unspecified injuries.
South County Fire and Snohomish County Fire District 7 crews kept the fire contained to the one apartment and had it under control in about 10 minutes.
The woman was the only person in the apartment when the fire broke out. Her son was away. They and three residents of the first-floor apartment below were displaced by fire and water damage. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation, South County Fire said.
