Driver killed in crash while fleeing from deputies in Lynnwood

EVERETT — A driver died after crashing into other cars while fleeing from law enforcement in Lynnwood on Thursday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on suspicion of reckless driving on Highway 99 near 196th Street, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. When the driver failed to stop, the sheriff’s office said the deputy began pursuing the vehicle.

Deputies said the man was driving eastbound on 200th Street Southwest when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into two cars headed in the opposite direction.

The driver, a 34-year-old Lynnwood man, died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

People in the other two cars were taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening and no deputies were hurt, according to the sheriff’s office.

Six blocks of 200th Street Southwest from 50th Avenue West to 56th Avenue West were closed on Thursday evening following the crash.

The Lynnwood Police Department said it is assisting with the crash investigation.
