SEATTLE — Washington weather officials say fall weather has arrived as heavy rain is expected throughout the western part of the state.

KING-TV reports that the National Weather Service says Puget Sound area should expect up to an inch (2.5 centimeters) of rain in lower regions and up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) in coastal or mountain regions Tuesday.

Officials say that includes rain around Seattle through Wednesday and wind up to 30 mph (48 kph).

Weather officials say the Seattle area is already at double the amount of precipitation that is normal for this point in the month.

Officials say thunderstorms are possible Tuesday on the coast, in the Olympics, and south of King County and a gale warning is in effect until 5 p.m. for coast regions.
