Man arrested after rush-hour gunfire near Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — A 34-year-old man was arrested after several people reported gunfire east of Lynnwood during the evening rush hour Tuesday, according to a sheriff’s deputy report.

Deputies and Lynnwood police arrived shortly before 5 p.m. to the parking lot of Peregrine Manufacturing in the 19500 block of 24th Avenue W, near the Old Spaghetti Factory. They found bullet casings on the ground and a Chrysler 300 with bullet holes in its windshield. No one had been hurt. The car sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage.

Law enforcement officers split up in what became a chaotic scramble to find a suspect. They detained several people.

Eventually, a witness identified one of the detained people as the man he believed fired the gun.

A records check reportedly showed the gun in the Lake Stevens man’s possession, a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun, was stolen in Spokane. The gun was missing nine bullets. Police recovered nine bullet casings from the scene.

The suspect told deputies that he didn’t know about the shooting and was on his way to his mother’s house.

The report did not indicate any particular reason for the gunfire.

Deputies booked the man into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, malicious mischief and discharging a firearm.

The arrested man previously was convicted of third-degree assault, twice: once in 2018 for hitting a man in the head with a brick, and in 2014 for hitting a man in the face with a wine bottle.
