Seahawks vs. Cardinals inactives: No Clowney for Seattle

Published 12:13 pm Sunday, December 22, 2019

Here are the inactives for Sunday’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals at CenturyLink Field:

SEATTLE (11-3)

Inactive:

WR John Ursua, DE Jadeveon Clowney, CB Shaquill Griffin, T Duane Brown, G Phil Haynes, TE Tyrone Swoops, S Quandre Diggs.

Notes: Seattle plays this one without some key players as Clowney (core), the team’s premier pass rusher, misses his second straight game, while Brown (biceps/knee), who’s usually charged with protecting QB Russell Wilson’s blind side, also sits this one out — George Fant will take Brown’s place. Two starters in the secondary, Diggs (ankle) and Griffin (hamstring) also miss this one, and one has to wonder whether Seattle is being extra cautious as this week’s result has no effect on the NFC West title, which will be determined next week when San Francisco visits CenturyLink.

The Seahawks suffered further attrition this week via suspension as WR Josh Gordon was suspended indefinitely and DT Al Woods was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Seattle signed DT Bryan Mone from the practice squad to take Woods’ spot and he’s active, while no extra receiver was added to replace Gordon.

On the plus side, Seattle welcomes LB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring), DE Ziggy Ansah (neck) and TE Luke Willson (hamstring) back from injuries.

ARIZONA (4-9-1)

Inactive: WR KeeSean Johnson, CB Andre Chachere, S Deionte Thompson, LB Keishawn Bierria, LB Vontarrius Dora, OL Joshua Miles, OL Lamont Gaillard.

Notes: Arizona is surprisingly healthy for a last-place team at this point in the season, as the Cardinals had no players listed at worse than questionable, and only one full-time starter (DT Rodney Gunter with a toe injury) is on injured reserve. All three players listed as questionable — DT Caraun Reed (knee), WR Christian Kirk (ankle) and LG Justin Pugh (back) — are active.
