PREP STARS OF THE NIGHT FOR FRIDAY, JAN. 25:
Mack Konig, Jackson girls basketball
Konig, a sophomore guard, scored 47 of the Timberwolves’ 70 points (67 percent) in the Timberwolves’ 70-48 win over Kamiak in a Wesco 4A contest.
Tyler Rhue, Stanwood boys wrestling
Rhue, a freshman, beat Everett’s Jonah Palabrica in a 2-1 decision at 113 pounds, but Rhue and the Spartans suffered their first loss in a Wesco 3A North dual, losing to Palabrica and the Seagulls 40-33. Rhue, who extended his unbeaten start to his high school career, is ranked third in the state at 106 pounds and Palabrica is fifth at 106.
Tijan Saine, Kamiak boys basketball
Saine, a sophomore guard, sank a deep 3-pointer with about a minute remaining to help the Knights seal a 65-61 Wesco 4A win over Jackson. Saine finished with 21 points in the game.
Fernie Vasquez, Everett boys wrestling
Vasquez, a senior, topped Stanwood’s Keaton Mayernik 4-3 in a bout at 126 pounds, helping the Seagulls to a 40-33 victory over the Spartans in a key Wesco 3A North dual. Vasquez entered the night ranked eighth at 126 according to Washington Wrestling Report. Mayernik is third at 120.
Colton Walsh, Meadowdale boys basketball
Walsh, a senior forward, scored a career-high 30 points — 20 in the second half — in the Mavericks’ 64-53 win over Edmonds-Woodway in a Wesco 3A/2A rivalry clash.
