MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Late-night and early morning commuters who use exit 178 from northbound I-5 will need to take a detour Thursday night and very early Friday.

Contractor crews working on the Sound Transit light rail line to Lynnwood will close the off-ramp to 236th Street SW.

Mountlake Terrace staff permitted the contractor a temporary noise variance for moderate construction and engine noise at night to install girders for a future bridge. Construction is set for 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

A detour for eastbound drivers on 236th Street SW will take them south on I-5 to 244th Street SW, east to 56th Avenue W, then north on 56th Avenue W.

Drivers heading west on 236th Street SW will detour south on 56th Avenue West to 244th Street SW, west on 244th to northbound I-5, then to the 220th Street exit.
