The Athlete of the Week nominees for June 7-13. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and will be included in the paper on Tuesday, June 22. Each weekly winner will be entered into the Athlete of the Month poll. The final Athlete of the Month poll for the 2020-21 school year will include weekly winners from May and June. This is the final Athlete of the Week poll for the 2020-2021 school year.

Adonai Daniel | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys basketball
Daniel, a junior, scored a game-high 29 points in the Warriors’ 69-56 victory over Cascade on June 2. He also led Edmonds-Woodway with 18 points in a 57-41 win over rival Meadowdale on June 5. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for May 31-June 6 by claiming 238 of 1,127 (21.1%) votes.

Noah Clarke | Snohomish | Boys swim and dive
Clarke, a senior, swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 47.57 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 4:45.93 to earn the top times in both evens in the Wesco 3A/2A ladder finals. Clarke was also a member of the Panthers’ 400 freestyle relay team, which posted the ladder’s top time of 3:26.96.
Giselle Dogan | Jackson | Girls basketball
Dogan, a freshman, led the Timberwolves with 19 points in a 51-42 win over Monroe on June 9. She scored a team-best seven points in the fourth quarter as Jackson outscored the Bearcats 23-13 in the final period to secure the victory.
Taras Fesiienko | Everett | Boys basketball
Fesiienko, a senior, scored a game-high 27 points in his final high school game to help lead the Seagulls to a 55-45 win over Monroe on June 10. He also scored 12 points in a 58-49 loss to Stanwood on June 8.
Slava Gilszmer | Kamiak | Boys swim and dive
Gilszmer, a senior, won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 freestyle in the Wesco 4A ladder finals with times of 21.45 seconds and 47.63 seconds, respectively. He was also a member of the Knights’ victorious 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Andrew Kallio | Marysville Pilchuck | Boys swim and dive
Kallio, a senior, posted an 11-dive score of 454.9 points to lead all divers in the Wesco 3A/2A ladder finals.
Malakhi Knight | Marysville Getchell | Boys basketball
Knight, a senior, poured in a game-high 36 points, including 23 in the second half, as the Chargers rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Jackson 71-63 on June 10. He also scored a team-high 28 points in the Chargers’ 72-67 loss to Lakewood on June 8.
Reece LeCompte | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys wrestling
LeCompte, a senior, beat Shorecrest’s Thomas Rhodes by a 5-2 decision in a 145-pound bout between a pair of 2020 Class 3A Mat Classic state qualifiers on June 9.
Mckenna Leith | Meadowdale | Girls basketball
Leith, a senior, drilled six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points in the Mavericks’ 67-31 win over Shorewood on June 9.
Keira Marsh | Arlington | Girls basketball
Marsh, a junior, shot 11-of-17 from the field, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers, as she led Arlington with a game-high 26 points in a 77-36 victory over Snohomish on June 7. She also led the Eagles with 21 points in a 80-71 win over Lake Stevens on June 9.
Claire Mitchell | Cascade | Girls basketball
Mitchell, a sophomore, poured in a game-high 20 points, including nine in the first quarter, as the Bruins knocked off Mariner 57-40 on June 8.
Kian Pergueros-Warren | Cedarcrest | Boys basketball
Pergueros-Warren, a senior, poured in 34 points, including four 3-pointers, in the Red Wolves’ 89-64 loss to Lake Stevens on June 10.
Drilon Veliu | Jackson | Boys basketball
Veliu, a junior, posted a game-high 24 points in the Timberwolves 74-68 victory over Monroe on June 8. He also poured in 29 points in a 71-63 loss to Marysville Getchell on June 10.
