GIRLS SOCCER
3A STATE TOURNAMENT
Snohomish 2, Roosevelt 1 (Snohomish wins 5-4 on PKs)
GIG HARBOR — Sara Rodgers scored a goal and also clinched the game in the penalty phase as ninth-seed Snohomish beat No. 8 Roosevelt in a shootout to advance to the quarterfinals of the 3A state tournament on Friday night.
Rogers scored with 12 minutes to play to break a scoreless tie, but Snohomish allowed a late goal to force overtime. The overtime period was scoreless and the Panthers earned the win on penalty kicks.
Catherine Greene had 12 saves in goal plus a huge save in penalty kicks to help lift the Panthers to the dramatic win.
Snohomish (14-4-2) will face either No. 16 Bonney Lake or No. 1 Gig Harbor at 5 p.m. Saturday at Roy Anderson Field.
Shorewood 5, Lakes 3
SEATTLE — Seventh-seed Shorewood held off No. 10 Lakes in a high-scoring match to advance to the 3A state quarterfinals.
Shorewood (17-3-0) will face No. 2 Holy Names Academy at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Interbay Athletic Complex.
Lakeside 2, Shorecrest 0
SEATTLE — Third-seed Lakeside blanked No. 19 Shorecrest in the opening round of the 3A state tournament.
Shorecrest finished its season with a 11-10-2 record.
Lakeside advanced to face No. 11 Lake Washington at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Interbay Athletic Complex.
