LYNNWOOD — A man reportedly set his Lynnwood apartment on fire Sunday afternoon and barricaded himself inside, according to police.

Lynnwood police and South County Fire crews were called around 1:45 p.m. to an apartment building with eight units in the 6500 block of 208th Street SW after reports of a fire, police wrote.

A man, 34, refused to exit the apartment in the southeast corner of the building. When police told him they were going to force their way in, he blocked the door and a window, police wrote.

Smoke billowed from the apartment.

The man “was yelling and screaming obscenities and was not communicating back in a coherent way,” police wrote.

Police got a key to the apartment from the property manager and entered. The man was detained and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for second-degree burns and smoke inhalation.

Police found a pot on top of the refrigerator in the apartment, with fire coming out of it and spreading to a wall. The flames were extinguished without causing further damage.

Upon release from the hospital, the man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree arson.
