EVERETT — Residents near Naval Station Everett may hear the sounds of a war zone Tuesday morning, but there’s no need to take cover.

Personnel at the U.S. Navy base near the Bayside neighborhood will conduct a training exercise from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release. Blank rounds simulating gunshots and mass warning announcements may be heard in the surrounding area.

Emergency vehicles may be seen around the base and in the harbor. The drill is not expected to affect traffic, however, and gates at base entrances will not be closed, base spokesperson Kristin Ching said.

The exercise is part of regularly scheduled training, Ching said.
