Honda enjoys a broad and loyal customer base in the United States.

And the Japanese automaker is looking to extend that even further with the introduction of the 2022 Honda Passport AWD TrailSport.

Restyled and adventure-ready, TrailSport comes with a rugged new exterior design that better reflects its true off-road capabilities, and more standard features than ever before. Inspired by the spirit of exploration, the first-ever trim level will place a smile on outdoors-minded consumers.

Reflecting customer demand, the Passport EX-L is now the entry point for Honda’s largest, five-passenger SUV. Rounding out the model are TrailSport and Elite trims.

“Honda has offered weekend adventurers durable and capable SUVs for more than two decades and our newest Passport takes this to a new level,” said Michael Kistemaker, assistant vice-president of Honda National Sales. “The new TrailSport doesn’t just look rugged, they’re ready, willing and able to get dirty tackling trails.”

Passport’s tough new look better reflects the rugged capabilities of its strong unibody construction, independent front and rear suspension, standard 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, nine-speed automatic transmission, and available class-leading i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.

And since most owners spend the vast majority of their time on pavement, that combination delivers class-leading on-road comfort and dynamics along with sharp, precise steering that produces a sporty driving character in any situation.

TrailSport’s trim is highlighted by a unique grille treatment, and more aggressive front and rear bumpers that include silver-painted skid plates. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels, tailgate spoiler, roof rails and dual exhaust all add to the affect.

Passport seats up to five adults with room and space to spread out. Even better, the rear cargo is oversized, with plenty of area to stow gear, camping equipment, or even golf clubs. Beneath the deck is hidden storage, a perfect place to secure valuables. TrailSport is rated at 24 miles per gallon down the highway, and is rated for towing.

In the cabin, the orange TrailSport logo is embroidered on the steering wheel, door panels, seats, and headrests. TrailSport also features power folding mirrors for narrow trails, and heated windshield wiper parking area to keep them from getting stuck in frigid conditions.

Passport is loaded with creature comforts including leather trims, power moonroof, wireless phone charger, satellite radio, Bluetooth, adaptive cruise control, audio system with seven speakers, trip-zone climate control, and push-button start.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow phone connectivity to run your personal GPS and music.

The Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assistive technologies is standard on every Passport. Highlighted technology includes collision mitigation braking with forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist system, road departure mitigation, and lane departure warning.

Other items included as standard equipment include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot information system, rear cross-traffic monitor, and a security system.
