Even with changes, Herald still provides local news I need

It is a typical Snohomish County Sunday morning in January: 41 degrees and raining. My new “weekend” edition of The Herald is marinating in a damp mailbox about 30 yards down the driveway. It’s been there for 18 hours and will remain there until I find a good reason to leave the house.

In the meantime, I am beginning to figure out how to navigate the electronic version, because The Herald is my primary source of local news. I long ago gave up reading the woefully out-of-date national news articles and have learned to cope with my frustration over the fact that sporting events often end after The Herald has been printed. Still, the paper covers events in the state and county that impact my neighbors and me, but receive no other coverage. The opinion columns, comics and crosswords aren’t too shabby either.

It is no secret that newspapers like The Herald are on thin ice. My hope is that these changes allow it to adapt and continue to provide this essential service.
