MARYSVILLE — An autopsy confirmed a young woman died by drowning Sunday in Marysville’s Twin Lakes Park.

The deceased was identified Monday as Tana M. Daily, 20.

Before dawn Sunday, a Marysville police officer on a routine check of the lakes came across the woman’s younger sister, who reported they had been swimming together in the south lake, according to police.

The younger sister got out around 2 a.m. “to walk to the car to put the dogs in it” and to grab some clothes, police said in a press release.

“She stated that she heard splashing in the water as she was walking away from the lake and assumed the victim female was also getting out of the water,” according to Marysville police.

But when she went back, she couldn’t find her older sister and called a friend to help search. They had reportedly been looking for about two hours when the officer arrived.

Around 1 p.m., a drone operator found Daily’s body in about 12 feet of water, just beyond a marked swimming area. A dive team recovered the body.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Daily drowned. The death was classified as an accident.

The two manmade rectangular lakes, also known as Gissberg Twin Lakes, are a popular place to swim when the weather heats up, in a 44-acre park just west of I-5.

Temperatures touched 81 degrees Sunday in Marysville, according to the National Weather Service.
