DEMING — After trailing 10-0 through two innings, the Cougars (1-2, 1-0 league) stormed back with an 11-run third inning to take the lead. Playing under windy conditions with gusts blowing out to center, the two teams combined for nine home runs on the evening. After going down in the third, the Mountaineers (1-1, 0-1) managed to pile on eight more runs to take an 18-10 lead in the fourth, and the two sides traded scores until settling at 20-20 entering the seventh. Lakewood tacked on three runs in the top of the inning, and only gave up one in the bottom to secure the win.

Riley Pevny (4-for-5, 5 RBI) headlined the Cougars’ effort, hitting for the cycle and closing out the game on defense with a line drive snare. Katie Krueger (5-for-6, 6 RBI) pitched all seven innings, allowing 19 hits, 13 earned runs and four walks, while striking out four. Cassidy Wolfe (4-for-4, RBI) and Rylynn Harrison (3-for-4, RBI) hit well from the eighth- and ninth-spots in the order to bolster the Cougars in a wild offensive showdown.
