Group rescued from gravel bar on Skykomish River

MONROE — Five people were rescued from the Skykomish River on Thursday evening after getting stranded on a gravel bar.

The incident started about 4:30 p.m. between Monroe and Sultan, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

Investigators believe a man, woman and three children were floating the river when one of the children fell off an intertube. The man went into the water to help the child and suffered injuries to his foot, Ireton said.

He was treated at the scene. Crews assisted with the rescue from the sheriff’s office, Snohomish County Search &Rescue and east county fire districts.
