Beach ABCs sneak learning into fun time

Published 1:54 pm Friday, May 18, 2012

The next time your family is having fun at the beach, take a moment with your kids to try writing words in the sand.

Writing in wet sand is really hard. It works a major amount of gross muscles that are really good for children to practice using. It’s also a good way to sneak in some academic learning into your ordinary day.

You can also try filling in words with stones or shells. This requires kids to use the same fine motor muscles that are needed for nice handwriting.

Of course, throwing rocks is always fun too!
