A wave of preseason junior hockey action is about to crash into Everett. The Holiday Inn Preseason Classic begins in two days, with nine games taking place over three days at Comcast Arena. This year’s special guest is the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, giving local fans the rare opportunity to get a taste of a different league. Here’s a reminder of this weekend’s schedule:
Friday
Seattle vs. Portland, 11:30 a.m.
Spokane vs. Tri-City, 3 p.m.
Sault Ste. Marie vs. Everett, 7 p.m.
Saturday
Spokane vs. Seattle, 11:30 a.m.
Portland vs. Sault Ste. Marie, 3 p.m.
Tri-City vs. Everett, 7 p.m.
Sunday
Portland vs. Spokane, 11:30 a.m.
Tri-City vs. Sault Ste. Marie, 3 p.m.
Seattle vs. Everett, 7 p.m.
One bit of Tips news. Left wing Josh Winquist has rejoined practices, though on a limited basis. Winquist didn’t participate in last week’s training camp while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He’s skating in practices but not participating in drills that involve contact. He’s expected to be cleared for contact in approximately two weeks, and he’s hopeful to be ready for Everett’s final two preseason games on Sept. 17 and 18. Winquist was the only returning player who was unable to participate last week because of injury.
