YANKTON, S.D.— The trail of crimes potentially linked to Colton Harris-Moore now stretches 2,000 miles east to a South Dakota border town near Sioux City.

Yankton Police told the Press and Dakotan newspaper they’re investigating a home burglary early Friday in which a 6-foot-tall young white man is a suspect.

Harris-Moore, 19, is 6-foot, 5-inches tall and police have said he appeared to be headed east. There have been a string of car thefts and attempted burglaries and thefts at small airports in Oregon.

His trail had gone cold after a stolen car was found near Boise, Idaho, on June 12.

Police in Yankton told the local paper that the burglary suspect appears to match the description of a fugitive from Oregon, but they didn’t mention Harris-Moore by name.

A family returned to a vacation home and surprised the suspect. He reportedly had eaten food and appeared to have been staying there for several days, police said.

Harris-Moore has a history of similar crimes on Camano Island, where he is from.

He escaped from a Renton group home in April 2008. He’s suspected in a crime spree that now extends across several states and into Canada.

No arrests were made in Yankton and police there didn’t immediately return calls.
