Everett’s NHL draft history

Published 4:27 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2010

With the start of the NHL draft two days away, it seemed an appropriate time to remind everyone of Everett’s draft history. Here’s all the Tips who have been drafted:

2006

C Peter Mueller, first round, eighth overall by Phoenix

G Lelan Irving, first round, 26th overall by Calgary

LW Ondrej Fiala, second round, 40th overall by Minnesota

RW Brady Calla, third round, 73rd overall by Florida

2007

C Zach Hamill, first round, eighth overall by Boston

D Taylor Ellington, second round, 33rd overall by Vancouver

RW Dan Gendur, seventh round, 206th overall by Vancouver

2008

LW Kyle Beach, first round, 11th overall by Chicago

2009

RW Cameron Abney, third round, 82nd overall by Edmonton

C Byron Froese, fourth round, 119th overall by Chicago

Some notes:

– With goaltender Kent Simpson and defensemen Radko Gudas and Alex Theriau expected to be drafted this year, it will be the fifth straight year the Tips have at least one player taken.

– If none of those three are taken in the first round — and they aren’t projected as first rounders — it will be just the second time Everett missed out on the first round.

– The Tips need someone to take a flyer on left wing Tyler Maxwell if they want to match the 2006 haul of four players selected.

– Gudas and Maxwell are hoping to join Gendur as the only overage draftees in Everett history. Gendur was passed over in two drafts before being selected. Gudas has been eligible for two drafts without being taken, while Maxwell has been eligible for one.
