Monroe: Settlement request of $192,950
Meredith Mechling has requested a $192,950 settlement in her public-records case against the city.
The figure accounts for $109,000 in legal fees and $83,950 in penalties for public-records violations, according to William Crittenden, Mechling’s attorney.
Monroe’s legal counsel, lawyers with Ogden Murphy Wallace, reached out to Crittenden last week, asking for a settlement figure to discuss with the City Council. The city could accept the settlement, let a judge determine an amount or attempt to appeal the case.
The settlement is related to an Oct. 26 decision by the state Court of Appeals, which supported Mechling’s long-running attempt to secure e-mails sent in 2005 among City Council members.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Nov. 23 to the City Clerk at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.
