Everett Silvertips return to rink following Donald Trump rally

The Everett Silvertips were back on the community rink ice Wednesday after taking Tuesday off due to the Donald Trump campaign event at Xfinity Arena.
The Tips skated for a little more than two hours in anticipation of this weekend’s Holiday Inn Classic at Xfinity Arena.
Per the preseason roster on the website there are 32 players remaining in camp. That includes 2016 first-rounder Ethan Browne, who will likely remain through the weekend to get into some exhibition games prior to heading back to Alberta. As a 15-year-old he’s not eligible to play this season.
The number also includes overage defensesman Brycen Martin, who has signed with the Buffalo Sabres and is expected to play professionally this season. Martin is not at training camp.
One notable omission is Sean Mallonee who was cut despite leading all players with six goals and three assists in four games during last weekend’s Volunteer Cup scrimmages. Mallonee is a Kennewick native and former Junior Silvertip forward who had one assist in four games with the Tips last season before spending the remainder of the season with the North Iowa Bulls.
The Tips also announced that goaltender Carter Hart will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Seattle Mariners game on Sept. 6.

Other observations:
– Finnish forward Eetu Tuulola looks like a grown man in his second skate with the team. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder did not arrive until Saturday costing him the chance to suit up in the Volunteer Cup and Green vs. Grey Game. He was a sixth-round pick by the Calgary Flames in the NHL draft and the Tips are hoping he bolsters their 1998-born class.
– Offseason acquisition Sean Richards looks like a solid pickup. Also a 1998-born forward, Richards performed well at camp over the weekend and was described by general manager Garry Davidson as being a similar player to Dawson Leedahl – the former Tip captain for whom he was traded.
– Matt Fonteyne might be even faster on the ice than he was last season. The team did combine testing Monday and the results haven’t been posted, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he improved during the offseason.
– Mackenzie Dwyer and Spencer Gerth both skated after practice as they continue to recover from injuries. Dwyer is coming back from the ACL tear he suffered in January and Gerth is dealing with a shoulder issue that occurred during camp.
– The Silvertips also announced their theme nights for the upcoming season. The Pink the Rink Game is scheduled against Seattle on Oct. 15. The Teddy Bear Toss will take place Dec. 17 against Portland.
