WOODINVILLE — A Monroe motorcyclist was killed Saturday after he lost control of his bike and struck a guardrail.

Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating reports that the man was performing stunts on his Honda motorcycle before he lost control and hit a guardrail, according to a State Patrol press release.

The man, 22, died at the scene. His name was not released Sunday by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. on Highway 522 just east of Highway 9 in Snohomish County. Two lanes of the highway were shut down for about two hours while troopers investigated the wreck.

The Monroe man was the seventh person to die in motorcycle crash in Snohomish County this year.

A Port Orchard man was killed earlier this month when his motorcycle and a minivan collided in Edmonds.

The Washington State Patrol formed a task force to address the increase in motorcycle fatalities in recent years. The task force found that the most common factors leading to deadly motorcycle crashes are lane errors, speeding, alcohol and inattention.
