Granite Falls Scout earns Eagle rank

Kyle Christensen of Granite Falls recently received his rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony held in March at The Father’s House Church.

Friends, family and members of Troop 42 attended the event.

Kyle earned 23 merit badges and six other ranks and also completed a service project to be eligible for the award. He participated in major hikes and camp-outs and held many leadership and mentoring roles.

Kyle’s project was to enhance the parking lot area at The Father’s House Church by clearing, cleaning, and landscaping the lot’s south side.

He is a senior at Granite Falls High School.

Lake Stevens Scout attains Eagle rank

Grady McGuire of Lake Stevens was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. The ceremony took place in March at the South Lake Stevens Grange.

More than 100 friends and family members gathered for the event. Letters and recognition certificates were sent by state and national dignitaries, businesses, and organizations recognizing Grady for his accomplishments. Grady earned 29 merit badges, even though only 21 are required.

For his Eagle project, Grady repaired and upgraded the nature park trail at Forest Park in Everett.

He is a senior at Lake Stevens High School and wants to attend a four-year university after his graduation in June. He has been accepted to the University of Washington and Seattle University’s Honor Program.

Scouts to raise money with auction

Members of Boy Scout Troop 222, serving Granite Falls and Lake Stevens, will hold a silent auction and Italian dinner from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 17 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10120 Chapel Hill Road, Lake Stevens.

Money raised at the auction will help to pay for the summer Boy Scout camp and for much needed tents for the troop.

Troop 222’s camps are not fully funded by the Scouts and the auction is the main fundraiser of the year.

Scouts will offer their labor at the auction, including yard work and housework.

Tickets are $3 per person or $10 per family and are available at the door. Auction tables will begin to close at 6:45 p.m. The auction ends at 8 p.m.

Getchell firefighters serve up hotcakes

Pancakes, eggs and sausage on the grill will be served at 8 a.m. on Saturday for the Getchell Fire House annual Easter Pancake Breakfast.

This fundraiser supports the Getchell Firefighters Association. Smokey Bear and the Easter Bunny will also attend the event at the Getchell Fire House, 8424 99th Ave., Arlington.

Kids clothes needed for service group

Kloz 4 Kidz, a nonprofit organization in Marysville, is in need of clothing.

The group provides free clothing for kids in the area.

AWARDS

Local boys win martial arts honors

Mack Temple, 12, and Austin Temple, 13, both of Everett, and Nick Claymore, 12, of Lake Stevens were recently awarded gold medals at the 23rd annual Invitational Ryobu-Kai Northwest Classic event in March.

The students, who train with the Pacific Karate Organization in Everett, attended the competition, hosted by the Japan Karate Federation held in Gresham, Ore.

HONORS

Snohomish Senior Center accredited

The Snohomish Senior Center recently received recognition as the first senior center in the state to be nationally accredited.

The center met the standards and adhered to policies and procedures developed by the National Institute of Senior Centers, a unit of The National Council on Aging.

The award was presented in March at the Aging in America Conference in Las Vegas, Nev. There are 172 centers nationwide that have received this status.
